Welcome!

to Thomas Matthew Brooks, born today at 3:06 pm, weighing in at 8 pounds, 4 ounces. Both Mom and baby are doing well. More details to follow when mommy has some time.

Off to the Hospital

I've been cleared to come in, so soon!

Tuesday, May 26

The night before...

I'm still here and still pregnant. I guess the baby didn't want to be born on any of the feast days we've just had.

Tomorrow is the feast of St. Augustine of Canterbury. Interesting tidbit - St. Augustine was sent to evangelize England by St. Gregory the Great - one of the saints we named Gregory after.

In the morning we will all be up and ready to go by 6:30. John is taking me to the hospital (once we hear that the induction is still on), and then will take the kids out to breakfast and hang out with them until Grandma B. arrives.

We figure nothing much will happen in the time it takes her to arrive. I'll be registering, checking in, waiting for the doctor, etc. Of course if it does, we have a back up friend who has offered to help.

I am so grateful to everyone who has offered to help with the kids down here, for Grandma coming down in the midst of everything she has going on, and to everyone who has encouraged me. Your words and offers mean so much!

Hopefully we will have news to share that includes name, weight, length and maybe a picture or 2 for good measure.

Not my Timing

The hospital cancelled my induction. They don't have an open room in LDR or the maternity ward. I guess there are lots of women in C'ville going into labor - I am just not one of them.

I spoke with the Doctor to reschedule and the earliest is next Wednesday - the 27th. Needless to say there have been many tears today for this emotional pregnant woman.

John keeps assuring me that it will be alright. That it is not our timing, and all of our planning was consistent with the information we had

Trying to be positive
- At least I won't miss Clare's last day of school celebration with picnic.
- I have another week to pack boxes
- I'll get to take my mom to the airport and see her off
- The baby probably needs more time, since he hasn't shown any sign of coming out.
- This gives me another chance to trust the Lord and wait and see how He is planning everything instead of me.

6:30 and no where to go

I called the hospital this morning to head in.

They don't have any open beds. I'm to call back at 9 to see if there are any open rooms at that time.

Please say a little prayer that they induce me today.

My mom leaves Friday and John starts work in a little over a week - in NoVA, not here. I'm feeling a little stressed.

Monday, May 18

48 hours and counting

Wednesday is the day!

I saw the doctor today and have been okayed for an induction on Wednesday. (As long as the hospital doesn't move it for their own reasons.) So we'll be heading there that morning at 7 or so.

Of course I could go into labor before that, but it hasn't happened so far.

So for fun and if anyone's around I'll take guesses on names and weight. We're pretty sure it's a boy, unless Clare has prayed the baby into a girl. ;)

Closest guess will get some kind of prize.

Knock Knock

Gregory attempted a knock knock joke out of the blue today.

You really have to imagine a 2 year old boy's little voice for this.

Gregory: Knock, knock.
Me: What was that?
Gregory: Knock, knock.
Me: Oh, wait, you mean like the joke. Okay who's there?
Gregory: Bathroom.
Me: Bathroom who?
Gregory: Shy smile....
Clare (shouting): You!
Gregory: Bathroom you!

Both kids start laughing. John and I give each other a look.

Clare loves knock knock jokes and bathroom is one of her favorite lines...usually followed by 100 bad guys in the bathroom - she finds this very funny. But she hasn't told one for a few days. He's processing more than I supposed.

The Charted Course

It's funny how you think everything is planned out. Then it falls apart. You try not to stress. Then God puts it back together. And then you trust that the plan will hold.

We think know what we'll be doing for the next six months.

John's old company found him a position for those six months. We'll be in Northern VA, not Dallas. Happily, we'll be near family and friends and our old parish. The parish also has slots open in their kindergarten which is great for Clare.

It will still be stressful since John will be studying for the BAR exam and working full time. He starts June 1st and well - we'll need to move up there, and I'll have an infant. There may be sleepless nights and busy days. But we have a plan, insurance, and income which are all very important right now.

I'm thankful that something is coming together. And I trust that it will be for the best.

For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the LORD, plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give you a future full of hope. Jer 29:11

This Mother's Day

This Mother's Day I need to celebrate my mother and John's! They are such amazing women. My mom has come to stay with us for a month leading up to this baby's birth and hopefully afterwards. She has been so helpful with the children and aiding this poor swollen pregnant woman with cleaning and chores. She never complains and I find things coming to order in my house which I have never attained. It is such a blessing to have her here.

John's mom is amazing too. Right now, she is taking care of her parents, working as a realtor, renting out a townhouse, acting as president of the local optimist club and doing so many things that it makes my head spin just thinking about it. I've never known anyone who works so hard and yet makes time for all the people around her who need it.

This Mother's Day I would like to spend time with my husband who will finish the last paper of his law school career. It's due at 5pm. It's been a long trip through law school and exam time is never easy. Soon we'll be done and embarking on another adventure.

This Mother's Day the gift I desire most is to go into labor (after John finishes his paper of course) and to share our newest baby with my family.

This Mother's Day I am so thankful for the gift of being a mother to my wonderful children who love us so much, and for all of the wonderful mothers in my life - the mothers I'm friends with, the mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers in our families, the teachers who mother my children, and of course Our Blessed Mother, who gave us Her Son and adopted us as her children. May she watch over all mothers today in whatever situations they may find themselves, that we may follow her example and through love and trust bring our families to the feet of Jesus.

Quick Takes - Vol 13 - photo version

1)Sunday we celebrated my brother's birthday. It sure was nice to see them and the ever cute Corrina. Happy 27th Joe!2) Wednesday was Mom's Queen for a day with Clare's class. It was really sweet, the kids served us a snack, and we had to make plates of each other's faces. The plate I'm holding is Clare's artistic rendition of me.3) Thursday, we went strawberry picking - it was a ton of fun. We gathered about 5 lbs of strawberries.4) A Chile's strawberry shake - heavenly. At least it tasted good. By some cruel twist of pregnancy fate all the other strawberries taste awful to me. Even when baked or put in something. No one else seems to have this problem.5) Want to keep your kids busy and empty your cabinets of expired or small amounts of dry goods. Clare and Gregory loved this construction site of dried beans, oatmeal and rice. 6) We are so sad to see all of our friends leaving for the summer - off to internships and bar exam studying in other cities. The people we'll probably miss most our good friends Becky and Lincoln. Good luck to you!7) Look who got a super cute haircut! We're growing out the bangs.
That's it for this week - hopefully we'll have baby news in the week to come.

Keep to the Routine

I usually shower every morning before John. This is standard, and I'm guessing the kids have come to expect this pattern.

This morning John was still asleep after I had moved on to getting the kids ready for the day.

Gregory went over to the bed said "Daddy....Shower!"

A - You're Adorable

Clare's recital. She worked really hard and was very confused when the audience was laughing at the cuteness of the little girls.

A fact of life

Clare just brought me a picture and she was explaining it to me

Clare: That blue part is the sky which is so far above us and the green part is the grass where dogs go poop.
